Learning to build together
Orientation Week is over for this year’s incoming students as they begin classes together with the students from all the later years. Suddenly the school is filled with the intense, fast-paced energy of life on campus.
Thanks to Orientation Week, the new students have been partly prepared for the rhythm of life at EHL! A special Teambuilding Day has also prepared them for the work in groups that will make up much of their first year, with students of many different backgrounds and nationalities.
How do you learn to be part of a team? How do you harness the brain power of every member of the team to find ideas and solutions that you could never have come up with yourself?
During Teambuilding Day, EHL’s incoming students learned how to accelerate the process of working effectively in teams. They alternated challenging management simulation games and periods of reflection on what makes teams work.
How do you determine a winning strategy, assign roles, decide if and when to change course? The techniques of active listening, clarifying and communicating all seem quite easy and reasonable during a calm discussion – but very difficult in the heat of the action when the competitive spirit takes over!
