7. Faculty
A wide array of backgrounds…
Because the hospitality industry is so diverse, EHL faculty come from a wide array of professional and cultural backgrounds. They include professors of finance, strategy or marketing, professional chefs, oenologists, engineers and architects, specialists in hospitality operations, language and communication professors. You’ll experience many different approaches and different ways of teaching.
Close contact with teachers
EHL professors are chosen not just because of their expertise, but also because they are excellent and enthusiastic teachers. At EHL you’ll find you are much closer to your professors than you would be at most universities. Classes are small and teaching methods are participative. As well, you’ll find that professors are incredibly accessible and helpful.
School involvement
Staff and faculty take part in multifaceted EHL activities including student selection days, career development workshops, or on-campus special events. Outside class time, staff and students mingle and meet in the different restaurants and bars. Everyone joins in sports and cultural events, and staff/student teams compete in friendly rivalry in various sports or culinary competitions.
Student/faculty collaboration
Students and teachers work together on many projects and events which engage them over time and go far beyond the limits of the classroom. Faculty play a mentoring role in developing theme concepts and events and in final business projects. They also accompany students in preparing for different competitions, ranging from the Bourse d’Evian for Young Talent or the Young Entrepreneurs Award, through international culinary contests, to the Strategy Competition for Master’s students held each year at the International Investment Forum in Berlin.
Faculty help in career development.
Faculty members have close ties to the professional world. Many of them are engaged in consulting and auditing activities and are speakers or panel moderators at international conferences. Many are also engaged in research, helping to drive industry trends. Students participate in many of these activities, and receive on-going guidance and the opportunity to make precious professional contacts throughout their time at EHL.
