Language qualifications for the Bachelor progamme

The Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne is a bilingual school with two separate sections: the English and the French sections. You will of course have to master the language of the section in which you are studying. Furthermore, in order to participate fully in the life of the school, it is useful to have knowledge of the other language.

English

English is essential, because it is the language of international hospitality and plays an important part in life at EHL. Even if you are studying in the French section, you will find that much of the reading you need to do for your studies will be based on English texts. Many of the guest speakers or visiting lecturers who come to EHL are English-speaking, and international conferences will mostly be in English. And of course, as we are an international school, you will find that you need English for daily life on the campus and for participation in student activities.

French

But French is also important, because it is the language of the country in which you will be studying and is also the language of Europe's long tradition of hospitality. Knowing some French will enable you to participate fully in student life as well as in local life and activities. Although many students in the English Section do not speak French on entering the school, they follow French classes and are expected to have a working knowledge of the language by the end of their studies.

Different requirements for English and French sections

Language qualifications required are different depending on whether you wish to study in the English or in the French section.
