Career development: the Professional Development Stream

A Professional Development Stream runs through all the programmes and is closely intertwined with other courses. It brings together formal and informal learning, and helps students to take an active, responsible role both in their professional and in their personal life.

The Professional Development Stream guides students in identifying career possibilities that correspond to their talents. It organizes personal development workshops, provides up-to-date industry knowledge, and offers opportunities for constant interaction with professionals. A "Career Passport" enables students to track their individual progress and provides the basis for grading "soft" as well as "hard" skills.

Hard skills… and soft skills

EHL management programmes have a sound scientific basis, with a focus on quantitative skills and up-to-date management tools.

However, for most enterprises today, these “hard skills” are not enough. The client interface is becoming increasingly important as a key factor for competitive advantage. Private banks, wealth and asset management, engineering firms and consultants… all are convinced of the need to gain client trust and loyalty and create an atmosphere conducive to good business.

The hospitality advantage

Social and relational skills have always been a key part of learning at EHL and the Professional Development Stream extends and reinforces these qualities.

This is one of the main reasons why so many companies from different sectors – and not only hospitality enterprises – are eager to recruit EHL graduates. As well as giving our students a solid foundation in management, we help them learn how to inspire confidence, motivate a team, resolve conflicts, manage change, take into account cultural differences – while also knowing how to deal with their own personal problems and stress.
