Learning differently: active learning methods

EHL programmes are designed to encourage exploration and discovery by each individual student. This kind of active learning results in better understanding and assimilation of knowledge than the passive learning that results from sitting in a lecture theatre.

  • A wide range of learning methods

Classes at EHL are very different from the uniform lecture format practised in many universities. Of course, some knowledge is best acquired in a lecture theatre. But at EHL, lectures are completed by many other learning activities: case-studies, team projects, practical work, workshops, research projects, group work and immersion in real-life professional situations.

  • Different approaches for different learning styles

Putting together many different ways of learning results in a synergy of the different kinds of knowledge that make up hospitality management. The variety of methods also gives students the chance to develop according to their own particular talents and learning styles instead of having to adapt to a one-fits-all format.

  • Building knowledge through sharing

These methods encourage constant sharing and learning from one other. Students learn from multiple sources and encounter multiple points of view. From these sources they build up an individually relevant and powerful body of knowledge.
