Accreditation for the Diploma hospitality programme

The Diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management benefits from EHL’s status as a recognized and accreditated degree-granting institution. The Diploma itself is recognized by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

In addition, hospitality diploma students are able to benefit from many of the resources and opportunities offered to students in EHL’s Bachelor and Master hospitality programmes and can work alongside some of the more advanced students. Hospitality diploma students who have successfully completed the programme are able in some cases to transfer to EHL’s Bachelor programme, depending on results obtained in the Diploma programme and initial qualifications.

The Hotel Management Diploma is unique in its concept and content. However it is roughly equivalent to the following diplomas:

  • In Switzerland: the Swiss ES diploma, but with a more academic focus.
  • In France: a Bac plus 2. However, it is more academic than a hospitality BTS and more applied than a DEUG.
  • In the British system: the level falls between a City and Guilds Diploma and a Higher National Diploma. In terms of edexcel hospitality qualifications, it corresponds to the hotel management diploma offered by hospitality colleges at level 3 hospitality, or to the the nvq level 2 hospitality.
  • In the American system, EHL’s hospitality diploma is the equivalent of an Associate degree and may in some cases be accepted by institutions for transfer credit in programmes leading to a Bachelor's degree.

The hospitality diploma programme has been developed as a series of modules, for which two sets of credits have been calculated - one for the US and one for the European ECTS credit system. These credits are a useful indication of the level of the hospitality courses taken and the competencies achieved. They may be used by students who wish to apply for transfer to another school, or by employers seeking information on the nature of EHL’s hotel education and the level of a Swiss hotel management school.
