Who we are
Lausanne Hospitality Research (LHR) is the only university-level research centre in Switzerland for applied hospitality research. It brings together scholars and industry professionals to work on projects which will be of direct benefit to the industry while contributing to excellence in hospitality education and teaching.
LHR captures, synthesizes and interprets existing knowledge, monitors trends, and creates new knowledge to encourage innovative practice. It organizes conferences and events which bring together researchers and the industry and help to disseminate knowledge.
A Research Commission evaluates research projects that are submitted to the LHR Director to determine their interest, scientific rigour, relevance and quality. Projects submitted for funding to Swiss government bodies are evaluated both by a scientific commission to ensure the quality of the research and an economic commission to ensure their applicability and feasibility.
Message from the Director of Research
Hospitality professionals are not always convinced of the relevance of research to their work, and until recently there has often been a disconnect between theory and practice. However, many issues, both strategic and operational, are not easily solved in an isolated manner by each company. The variables are too complex and the issues are out of the control of each specific company. Collaborative research that includes both researchers and professionals has a huge potential to find applied solutions for each hospitality company while building common knowledge on issues that affect the industry as a whole.
Our research team
EHL researchers are a very international group, coming from 11 different countries. They work both on individual research projects and on joint projects with other educational institutions and with the industry.
The LHR Office
Lausanne Hospitality Research is a department within EHL. It structures EHL's research agenda, acts as the clearing house for all research performed at the School, generates, allocates and manages resources for research, and ensures output quality and the publication of results.
