The second day of the conference (our 4th day in Berlin) was very interesting. The conference started with the first panel addressing where the new “hot spots” for investment are, where investors are most willing to invest and which markets are selling most properties at the moment.

Today the conference began. After a short briefing from the meeting planners, we started to welcome the attendants. We had the pleasure to work with students from Cornell as well as from ESSEC.

We have arrived swiftly at Berlin, despite of the last minute hassle at Geneva Airport (we almost missed the flight as security check took us more than 30 minutes).

As the February 2010 session of EHL’s bi-annual Information and Recruitment Days moves to a close, we can measure its success – including that of the one-day Job Fair, held on February 10, where industry presence tripled in the space of a year!

In the current market situation with limited debt available and general slowdown in markets, growth for hotels through adding additional units or rooms, is becoming extremely challenging. Hotels instead need a dose of technology and a little creativity to capitalize on their existing assets.

A strong delegation from the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne will be attending the IHIF/ITB conference in Berlin on March 8-10, 2010.

The first international hospitality conference run entirely by students, for students.

The first Young Hoteliers Summit, held at EHL on January 28-29, was a resounding success. This was something of a miracle! – for when the idea for an entirely new kind of hospitality conference was first dreamed up in September 2009, everybody was impressed, but nobody quite believed that it would actually take place, given the extremely short preparation time available.

The 4th Professional Forum organised by the Research Department of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne will be held on 23 March and the theme will be social media.

Last month, during the 15th Annual Graduate Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism, Ines Ghorbal-Blal won the 2009 Outstanding Doctoral Research Award in the Hospitality Management category. The prize was awarded jointly by the Emerald Publishing Group and the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD).

The dates of 3 and 5 February will be forever engraved in the minds of the 174 students of the Bachelor Programme and the Diploma of the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL).

EHL was the winner in this challenging new competition for hospitality management schools, launched as part of the Master Innholders General Managers Conference 2010. The theme - “Y Innovate?” - required students to prepare a 10-minute video about innovation in hospitality and to put it on YouTube. The form of the competition was as innovative as its subject, and well suited to EHL students’ technological prowess and creativity!

In 2009, the INTEHL Business Incubator supported the creation of new enterprises through its Student Business Projects (SBP) at Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne.

The day began with a round table discussion with industry CEO’s, followed by breakout sessions, networking events and guest speakers...

An interesting new idea being developed by EHL’s Career Centre is the following: one of the best ways of learning how to be a successful interviewee is by learning how to interview!

At a time when all EHL students are feeling stressed by revisions, their exams, group work or their search for an internship, the Career Club, a student run committee made up of a total of 27 students, adds to the pressure by putting a large part of its energy into organising an ambitious event that will take place at EHL on 28th and 29th January 2010.

From 1 February to 25 February, representatives from different organizations will be on campus to present their companies and the career possibilities and/or internships that they are offering. Personal interviews are also organized for students.

EHL is very pround to announce that Simone Hess, EHL Master student, won the Hyatt Student prize 2009 on the 15th of December in Paris.

On 23 March 2010, Lausanne Hospitality Research will be organising the 4th edition of the Professional Forum at the Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne.

The Hotel Yearbook which, at the end of every year, highlights the trends for the year to come is now available on-line.

The next Recruitment Days will be organised from 1 to 25 February at EHL, providing a unique opportunity to come and introduce your company to the students and recruit interns and young graduates.
