Hello there! My name is Sonja Roethlisberger. Contrary to the sound of my last name, I am a native English speaker. My father is Swiss, my mother, Taiwanese, and I was born and raised in Australia. I came to Switzerland after finishing high school in the southern hemisphere to continue my french studies as an au-pair for a family in Epalinges. I had the hope of finding out what more the world and its people had to offer.
In the process of discovering the city of Lausanne, I stumbled across a few very intriguing individuals. None more so than a group of three girls, each from a different continent of the globe, brought together by a university. It was at this moment I had to ask myself what kind of university could bring together such an amazingly unusual mix of people.
The answer is of course Hospitality, and as I learned more about EHL, I began to realise how much my life had been centred around my love for hospitality. I love meeting new people, learning from their experiences and ways of life, and the genuine cordiality those who love hospitality share with others, regardless of how unfamiliar a person is to them!
I am currently in my second year of the Bachelor Programme, having just come back from a six month internship in one of London’s finest hotels. Learning now about international hospitality management after experiencing first-hand how it operates at the highest level, I can truly see how this university provides a solid platform of knowledge and understanding for graduates to put their feet firmly on the ground and spring off into a career anywhere around the world.
As an EHL Ambassador for Australia, I am more than happy to share with you not only student life in EHL, but in Switzerland. And if you’re interested to know more about the degree itself, please feel free to contact me. Looking forward to meeting you!
