In an interview at #IHIF2017, Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of The Expedia Group, spoke about the level of commissions changed currently by Expedia and other online travel agencies (OTAs). Khosrowshahi said Expedia has been “bringing commissions down over a long period of time and we now need to pass these savings on to customers, shareholders and partners”. He highlighted the trend of de-bundling, particularly in the airline industry and said that this is the way hotel operators should operate. He felt the internet was mainly responsible for tearing apart pricing into its components and creating the popular bundle pricing models we are seeing today.
