The 7th edition of the Young Hoteliers Summit (YHS) took place at EHL in March 2016. The event, first launched in 2010 and fully organized by EHL students, welcomed over 80 delegates from hotel management schools as well as high-profile guest speakers from around the world. The three-day summit included various workshops, focus groups, keynotes and panels held by representatives from leading hospitality companies.
YHS Rankings: new insights into the expectations of young hoteliers
Results of the 2016 “YHS Rankings” were announced upon completion of a yearly survey aiming to identify the most desirable employers in the hotel industry, as perceived by young hoteliers worldwide. The rankings give insights into the views and priorities of the future generation and recognize the companies setting new standards for employment practices.
This year, more than 1,800 participants of 111 nationalities and 156 hospitality schools answered a survey focused on employment topics such as information sources, work-life balance and pursuit of further education. Ranked 1st in the Luxury & Upper Upscale segment, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts was followed by The Ritz-Carlton and W Hotels. Disneyland Hotel took the upper hand in the Upscale & Upper Midscale category, while Ibis Hotel ranked first for Midscale & Budget properties.
For the first time, YHS organizers opted for a more refined method of investigation to ensure the reliability and future use of this report for brand awareness assessment. In order to select the brands featured in this study, the authors collected and analyzed data from STR by classifying and segmenting hotel brands according to their average daily rates.
