London, 31 January 2015 – Over 400 alums of Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL) joined the 3rd annual Gala at the London Dorchester Hotel, showing once again the strength and breadth of one of the world’s largest and most active professional networks.

With over 25,000 members since the foundation of EHL, this vast network includes over 120 nationalities and is organized into 69 chapters around the world. More than an association of EHL graduates, this is a community whose members share the same values, quest for excellence, innovative approach and passion for hospitality.

Ms. Valérie De Corte, Director of the EHL Alumni Network: “At EHL, we strive to induce the EHL Spirit to our students; to foster a sense of belonging and support amongst students and graduates. During their intense curriculum on campus, our students forge strong relationships, including friendships which will last a lifetime, and they are introduced to our worldwide network of professionals. Being part of the EHL Alumni means being part of an active community where each member can find support and inspiration.”

The astounding list of hospitality industry leaders in the EHL Alumni network is indeed an inspiration and strong driver for young graduates. With countless success stories, EHL alums’ presence is notable far beyond the hotel and tourism industry, within a broader hospitality sector including Consulting, Banking, Real Estate, Healthcare, etc. “The combination of practical skills and knowledge developed at EHL, what we like to call the Art and Science of Hospitality, provide our graduates with an undeniable advantage on the job market for any service-related sector. They not only possess the academic strengths from a highly recognized university, they also have assimilated the soft skills associated with client-centric business models, the Swiss quality standards and an entrepreneurial mindset”, says Mr. Rochat, CEO of EHL SA.

Two success stories in particular were recognized at the Gala dinner, where the title of Honorary Professor of EHL was bestowed upon Arnaud Bertrand and Roland Fasel.

Arnaud Bertrand (EHL class of 2008), Parisian, founded the online marketplace for holiday rentals Housetrip in 2009 with his wife, Junjun Chen, and which has recently won the Best Startup Award at the World Travel Market. With offices in Switzerland, Portugal and the UK, Housetrip has quickly become one of the largest holiday rental websites in the world.

Roland Fasel (EHL class of 1984), General Manager of The Dorchester and Regional Director UK for Dorchester Collection. A natural and considered leader who has opened, renovated and repositioned hotels across three continents, Roland Fasel has applied his extensive experience, passion and business acumen to every hotel he has managed, successfully steering each operation to increased profitability. His continued commitment to excellence has helped to place the hotels amongst the very top luxury properties in the world. His remarkable career has been highlighted by many international awards, namely the 2011 Hotelier of the Year at the European Hospitality Awards.
